By early Sunday afternoon, the streets around Zilker Park were packed with Rolling Stones fans eager to attend the band's first-ever concert in Austin.
Fans who didn't spend $100 on a ticket to attend the concert claimed seating outside the park.
"We're over here listening to the music and try to see what we can see," said Patsy Gonzales.
An afternoon sound check delayed the gates opening - originally scheduled for 3 p.m. - to be pushed back to 4 p.m. Meanwhile the crowds swelled around Zilker Park as anxious fans prepared to claim their spots inside.
"We love the Rolling Stones. We can't wait till they let us in. Why do you think we're waiting here? We've been here since yesterday!" said fan Jacque Botto. We live in the neighborhood and really feel like they are coming to my living room."
Once fans were let in, the crowd made a mad dash for the stage.
Fans of all ages were anxious to get a glimpse of the band they had heard so much about.
"I'm 15 and I'm a fan because I've been listening to the Stones all my life and I'm just really excited about this concert," said Lucy Kellison.
Fans responded well when Mick Jagger announced that the band would take the unprecedented move of playing a Waylon Jennings song.
