Community reacts to questionable ad
09:27 PM CDT on Friday, September 28, 2007
An e-mail advertisement sent to 12-hundred former customers of a popular Georgetown Ford dealership is raising eyebrows as well as concerns among minority community leaders throughout the Austin area.
A manager of the Mac Haik Ford dealership in Georgetown was fired Thursday for sending out an ad via e-mail which poses the question "Are you tired of the Wet Backs?"
The ad was meant to bring customers in to check out the new air-conditioned seats in many of the latest models on the lot.
Of the 12-hundred people who received the e-mail two of them are board members of the Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
"Whether it was intentional or not to me that's really insignificant. To me it's the fact that it went out I think it's a reflection of that business and it sounds like there are no checks and balances in that process" says Paul Saldana of the Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Chris Colburn of Mac Haik says the dealership is embarrassed and promises it'll never happen again. He says employees now have to pass their ads by 3-top managers before they are disbursed.
The general manager of Mac Haik is meeting with the Hispanic Chamber and L.U.L.A.C. in a closed door meeting next Tuesday.
