Central Texans stocking up on emergency items
11:51 AM CDT on Thursday, September 11, 2008
Emergency and state officials urge all households to be ready in the event of an emergency by stocking up on essential items.
Many store shelves across Central Texas have been stocked with essential emergency items just in case the power goes out.
Experts say every household should be prepared with:
-- a flashlight
-- extra batteries
-- bottled water
-- non-perishable food
-- a non-electric can opener
-- a well-stocked first aid kit
If you have children, your emergency check list should include:
-- diapers
-- baby wipes
-- waterless anti-bacterial cleansers
It's also a good idea to be sure your medical prescriptions are packed, along with your cash and credit cards, important phone numbers and sleeping bags and bedding.
Of course, don't forget the pets. It's a good idea to stock up on the dog and cat food, and any other supplies your four-legged friends might need in an emergency.
