Police say the man who fired a gun in an Austin movie theater is still on the loose.

Austin police say this happened around 11 Sunday morning at the AMC theatre inside Barton Creek Mall. During a morning movie witnesses say the man got up, walked towards an exit door behind the movie screen, pulled the gun out of his pants, and fired a shot into the air as he left the theatre.

He is described as a white male in his early twenties, slender with blonde shaggy hair. He was wearing a black jacket at the time. Police add he may have been wearing a tshirt, jeans and flip flops.

Movie-goers got up and told management as soon as the man left the theatre. The movie was then stopped and the theatre was evacuated as police arrived on the scene.

Police were able to talk to several people who saw the man before and after the incident, but were unable to find him in the area around the movie theater and shopping mall. Austin police detective Kathy Hector said that's plenty of reason for concern.

"In a public place, this is a little more of a concern because this is not just like New Year's Eve firing weapons out into the air; this is a movie theater, this is a problem and we need to get this guy identified," said Hector.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Police are asking anyone with information on this man to call crimestoppers at 472-TIPS.
