Residents shocked by pastor's arrest

A former local church pastor has been arrested and charged, accused of embezzeling several hundred thousand dollars from his church.
Former Round Rock Pastor “Roddy” Clyde had total access to his church's bank account and credit card, according to court documents made public Thursday.
Horses were bought, according to investigators, with money from The Fellowship at Forest Creek Church. When church leaders say they found out money was missing, they called police.
“Obviously they are very unhappy; there is a sense of betrayal that we are picking up on," said Round Rock Police spokesperson Eric Poteet.
Clyde resigned Monday and was jailed Wednesday. Investigators say Clyde’s shopping list was not limited to horses. According to the arrest warrant, he is accused of using church money to pay for vacations and to buy land. A list of where police say he went, and where the property is located, that they say he bought, has not yet been made public. It’s believed Clyde embezzled around a half million dollars, but Poteet says the amount could grow.
‘Where the ceiling is, regarding missing money, that’s yet to be determined," said Poteet.
According to county tax records, Clyde owns two tracts of land in Taylor. One is in Hilltop Acres subdivision along CR 405. The other is located off FM 973 -- almost 60 acres in total, valued at about $200,000.
His Forest Creek Subdivision home is worth around $300,000.
The arrest of a church pastor is a shock and disappointment for those who live and work in that part of Round Rock.
“If he is stealing God’s money, God will take care of him,” said Terry Stewart.
“The important thing is that we forgive, and that he face the consequences of his actions,” said Anne Sanchez.
Investigators say Clyde has confessed. He is quoted in the arrest warrant as saying he wants to “make this right.” In the meantime, the church leadership is putting in new financial safeguards.
Bond for Clyde was set Thursday at $400,000.
His attorney wants the court to lower the bond amount. If convicted the former church leader could be sent to prison from 5 to 99 years.
