Council considers moving animal shelter
01:51 PM CDT on Wednesday, August 8, 2007
A city council subcommittee is hearing concerns from residents about a proposed move of the Town Lake Animal Shelter.
When voters approved $12 million for a new animal shelter in November of last year, it was never specified where that facility would be built.
Officials want to move the new shelter east to Airport Blvd. and Highway 183.
The current shelter has battled drainage issues for years.
But a group opposed to the move, FixAustin.org, is afraid of an out-of-sight, out-of-mind situation for the homeless pets.
The hearing is underway in council chambers.
