A 4-year-old child may have drowned Thursday afternoon at a North Travis County apartment complex, Travis County Sheriff's officials said.

Emergency crews rushed to the Retreat on Wells Branch apartments after bystanders found the boy unconscious in the water.

Witnesses had started CPR until emergency crews arrived. Despite their efforts the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner's Office will determine how the boy died. The boy, from Pflugerville, was visiting family members.

Dell Children's Medical Center reports there have been four drownings and 22 near-drownings since May 4.
