Warrants issued after baby dies, tests positive for cocaine

Warrants have been issued for the parents of an infant that tested positive for cocaine.
Travis County deputies were called to a Del Valle home in March. According to court documents, parents Elizabeth Harris and Jason Grocholski said their 2-month-old son Cainan stopped breathing while he was sleeping. When deputies showed up, it was too late.
"On arrival the baby was cold to the touch," said Roger Wade, Travis County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Wade says the medical examiner could not find a cause of death, but he did find drugs.
"Very small traces of cocaine. On the day of the incident according to CPS both parents tested positive for cocaine," Wade said.
Now the parents are wanted on charges of endangering a child.
"We're not alleging that they caused the death but that they put that child in danger by ingesting or using cocaine in the proximity of the child, causing the child to ingest some of that cocaine," Wade said.
KVUE News spoke to family members at the home where the infant died. They did not want to be interviewed, but did say "they're just trying to see it through."
"Saw her taking it in the carrier at first, but nothing else. Never again. I didn't know what happened to it," Maria Perez, neighbor.
Perez doesn't see how it could happen in the first place.
"As a mother, I don't understand how you would even be able to do that to your own child. It's sad. It's sad to know that that's happened," she said.
According to Child Protective Services, the parents tested positive for cocaine in court in April. At that time, their other child -- a 2-year-old girl -- was taken away.
CPS officials say they did receive reports of the mother using drugs when the now deceased baby was born. However, she did not test positive.
