Bus stop bat tests positive for rabies; three boys sought
02:59 PM CDT on Monday, June 9, 2008
Three boys may have been exposed to a rabid bat, and Austin-Travis County health officials say they need to find those children.
The bat was found at a North Austin bus stop June 3, and it later tested positive for rabies. Officials say three boys, who regularly ride the #3 bus from the Northcross bus stop to Lamar Middle School at Burnet Road and Koenig Lane, were seen playing with that bat. Officials want to find them, because they may have been exposed to rabies.
One boy is described as Caucasian, one boy is a thin African-American and the third boy is a heavier African-American. Their names and ages are unknown.
If you have any information, you're asked to call one of the following numbers:

Health experts say rabies symptoms often take weeks to appear, and once symptoms appear, the person often does not survive. Symptoms include fever or headache, confusion, sleepiness or agitation.
