Austin Police are searching for a shooter near South Pleasant Valley and Oltorf.

Police were called out to the Pleasant Hill Apartment Complex at the intersection of Anken and S. Pleasant Valley around 5:30 Sunday afternoon. Someone in the neighborhood heard gun shots and called 911.

When officers arrived they found a male in his early 20's on the pavement outside the apartment complex. Police say he had gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to Brackenridge hospital. He went into surgery Sunday evening and was considered to be in critical condition.

Police say the man who shot him still hasn't been found. They were able to get a description of the shooter as well as a description of a vehicle the shooter drove away in from witnesses nearby.

Officers found the vehicle at the intersection of Kasper and Club View, not far from where the body was found.

They called out several ground units, three canine crews and a helicopter, but after almost three hours the shooter was still missing and the search was called off.

“The dogs did a very extensive search along with the air ship and it came out with negative results at this time so we feel comfortable that the suspect is out of the area at this time,” said Joe Munoz of APD.

Police believe the shooter is armed and dangerous. He's described as a dark-skinned male in his early 20's, 5' 6" and very thin with short, cropped hair. Police say he was last seen wearing a baggy black shirt and black and white plaid shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call APD.

Those who live in the neighborhood say that crime isn't unusual. Many are concerned and say they would like to see more police patrol in the community.
