Cleaning up the damage after a night of storms
08:13 AM CDT on Friday, May 16, 2008
From dawn through dusk, the sounds of whirring chainsaws and sweeping could be seen and heard throughout the neighborhood of Tarrytown in west Austin.
The ordeal that neighbors experienced around midnight Wednesday is nothing they'll soon forget.
"It just turned into a madhouse for a good solid minute" says Travis Thompson, a resident living on Winsted who had seven windows bashed in by golf-ball size hail.
At 7:30 in the evening Thompson was still having the last of his windows replaced.
Down the street cleaning up was a family affair for the Alexanders.
Nan Alexander and her two 8-year old girls busied themselves by raking, sweeping and bagging up tons of leaves and limbs sheered off by high winds and hail.
A sleepless night and a day of clean-up is bound to make for a more peaceful night of rest on Thursday.
"We're going to get to bed early tonight and get lots of rest. I think the skies are going to hold out tonight. We're all safe and that's all that counts" said Alexander.
