Professional basketball is coming to Austin.
The NBA's development league joined Austin city leaders for the official
announcement Wednesday morning.
The team will be owned by Southwest Basketball, LLC, led by David Kahn,
former general manager for the Indiana Pacers.
Other cities to get teams are Albuquerque, Fort Worth and Tulsa. Teams
are already in place in Fayetteville, NC, Ft. Meyers, FL, Hunstville,
AL, and Ashville, NC.
"We are bringing in a special brand of professional basketball featuring
players on the verge of making it to the NBA and an affordable,
family-oriented atmosphere," said Kahn in a press release.
The owners say the people of Austin will help pick the team name.
Games should begin by November in the Austin Convention Center.
