Power goes out in East Austin after attempted theft
05:56 PM CST on Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Someone tried to steal a ground wire at an Austin Energy substation, resulting in a power outage for 7,300 customers Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The outage affected customers in East Austin from the river to 54th Street and Highway 183 to Chicon.
Austin Energy officials said an injured individual was rushed to the hospital from the Kingsbury substation by STARFlight.
Traffic signals in the area were affected by the outage, and officials worked to restore power to high traffic areas first.
Power was restored to all customers around 5:30 p.m.
