$28 million Lotto Texas jackpot remains unclaimed
12:19 PM CST on Monday, February 25, 2008
A Lotto Texas jackpot worth $28 million may be one step closer to being claimed.
Texas Lottery spokesman Robert Heith confirmed Monday that an initial inquiry for one of Saturday’s two winning tickets has been made. Two winning tickets, each now worth about $14 million, were sold in Addison and Houston. Mr. Heith said it was unclear which ticket the caller may have purchased but that the person was “seeking legal and financial advice.”
The North Texas winner purchased the Quick Pick ticket at a self-service terminal in the Tom Thumb grocery store at 14280 Marsh Lane in Addison. The Houston ticket was purchased at a Fiesta Beverage. The winning numbers were 2, 7, 21, 35, 43 and 50.
Mr. Heith said it was against Texas Lottery policy to release the names of winners until the tickets could be validated. According to a choice made by the winners while purchasing the tickets, Mr. Heith said both ticket holders had chosen to have the prize paid in installments over five years.
Unclaimed tickets are rare, and winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize, Texas Lottery said. Since 1994, only five prizes have not been claimed -- the most recent being a $7 million ticket bought in October 2007 in Terrell, Texas.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday's Lotto Texas drawing is $4 million.
