Body found at Hippie Hollow identified
10:33 PM CST on Monday, February 25, 2008
A man whose body was found at Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis Monday morning likely accidentally drowned, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
The discovery comes just one day after the body of another man was recovered from the lake.
Travis County Sheriff's officials say the body of Andrew Ellis Penn, 38, of Austin, was found just before 9 a.m. off the shoreline of Lake Travis at Hippie Hollow. The Travis County underwater recovery team found the body about 12 feet beneath the surface of the lake.
Investigators said Penn had left his car parked in this parking lot since Friday, and deputies were asked to check on the owner.
"Travis County Sheriff's Office received a request from the Travis County park rangers to check on an individual whose car had been left in the parking lot since Friday," said Roger Wade, Travis County Sheriff's Office. "They said a note was left on his car at about 6:30 on Friday letting him know the gates were going to be locked and who to call to get them opened. He hasn't been seen since."
A witness found Penn's personal items along the shore.
Investigators say it appears Penn accidentally drowned, according to a preliminary examination.
This is the second death on Lake Travis in 2008.
