Attorney: Boy's kidnapping may have been for ransom
06:28 PM CST on Friday, February 8, 2008
Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo Friday honored a 10-year-old girl who witnessed her brother's kidnapping and called 911.
“There was a real hero in this,” said Acevedo during a news conference.
“Two men came and opened the door and got him. We were fighting for my brother but they just took him,” said Zuleima Jaimes, Adrian’s sister.
Thursday, Zuleima Jaimes explained how her brother was snatched from the family’s SUV.
Police are still looking for the four Hispanic men who took five year old Adrian Jaimes

He was found Thursday night near Fairfield Drive and North Lamar nearly 13 hours and only about four miles from where he was abducted.
Cirilo Mora who lives at the Summerwind Condos in North Austin saw him in the parking lot as he was taking out the trash about 8 p.m. and called 911.
The 5-year-old was in the parking lot.
“He said, 'I need help, I'm lost,'" said Mora, speaking Spanish. “He said, 'Someone took me from my house, but a good man brought me here.' A good man I asked? 'Yes, a good man.' Where is he? 'He disappeared."”
Mora said the boy was healthy, in good condition. He looked unharmed.
Police, also, do not believe the boy was harmed.
Thursday Adrian's sister speculated the men wanted money.
“All they want is maybe money, they always do," said Zuleima Jaimes.
Friday, during the news conference, the Jaimes family attorney said he thought it was for a ransom.
“They may have thought they had some money and decided to pick on them. I don’t know if its something that’s overflowing from Mexico. I know it happens a lot in Mexico. I think it’s one of the first here in Austin,” said Thomas Fagerberg, attorney.
The family did not attend the news conference, Fagerberg believed, out of fear. But he said the family wants to thank the police department, its partners and the entire community.
“They were amazed by the outpouring of support from the media and the community in general and they couldn’t turn a block without seeing something about their child missing. They are very touched by it and they want to express their profound gratitude to everybody,” said Fagerberg.
