A Vista Ridge High School teacher has resigned amid allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student.

The student is a 16 year old male and the teacher, 27 year old Cathyrn Bowland.

Bowland taught social studies at Vista Ridge High School and was a coach for the Academic Decathlon team.

Allegations about Bowland's behavior during the teams January 19th trip to Odessa that launched an investigation.

A student reported Bowland was holding hands and having an inappropriate conversation with a 16 year old male.

"It wasn't the kind of conversation that a teacher and student should be having. And actually - the teacher was the one - to my understanding who shut the conversation off," said Dick Ellis, Leander ISD spokesperson.

Bowland was put on administrative leave while an investigation was launched. But in the middle of that investigation - she quit.

Students are now reacting to the news.

"Mine was like, that's kinda weird and a little icky. I don't see why anybody would do that," said Clara Montez.

And some parents are wondering why she quit, if she didn't do anything wrong.

"I don't know - there might have been some guilt right there - if she didn't do anything wrong. If she didn't do it.. ya know, if i didn't do it - i would have fought for my rights," said Stanley Burse.

District officials say -so far- they have not found any criminal activity or proof of a relationship between the two. If they do, they will turn that information over to the Cedar Park Police.

Bowland declined to talk to KVUE News for this story.
