FBI looking to hire 3,000 people nationwide
Openings range from nursing to auto mechanics to agents10:10 AM CST on Wednesday, January 7, 2009
HOUSTON, Texas -- With all the bad news about the economy and corporate downsizing, at least one organization is looking to add new employees.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is holding a hiring blitz to fill nearly 3,000 positions. It is the largest hiring effort in the bureau’s 100-year history.
You can find the list of openings on the FBI Web site.
"It ranges from nursing to investigation to analytical type work to auto mechanic specialists," said Mariann Bozeman with the FBI's Houston office.
They also need engineering professionals, language translators and computer experts, among others.
"A very wide range of job opportunities," Bozeman said.
The bureau is also looking for 850 new agents.
Every job within the bureau requires a polygraph exam, drug screening test and a thorough background check.
"Every employee that works within the bureau has a top secret clearance that they have, a background that clears them for the top secret capabilities," explained Bozeman.
Since the announcement, the FBI’s Web site has been overwhelmed with hits.
At one point Tuesday, one of the servers reportedly froze.
"We’ve had a lot of people respond," Bozeman confirmed. "It can kind of come and go so be patient with that."
