03:20 PM CST on Monday, January 5, 2009
An Austin woman has been sentenced to 10 years probation for dumping mothballs into the soup at a Randall's deli.
Lea Sechler pled guilty to tampering with a consumer product.
Surveillance cameras caught Sechler dumping mothballs into the soup at the Randall's at Mesa and Spicewood Springs in Northwest Austin.
Two customers and an employee complained about a strange smell and taste on more than one occasion, but no one got sick enough to go to the hospital.
Eating mothballs in large amounts can cause vomiting, nausea and liver problems.
