Texas schools dominate 1st college football weekend

AUSTIN - The state of Florida has a good college football weekend when Florida State, Miami, and the University of Florida all win. Well, if that’s a good weekend; then Texas just had an incredible college football weekend as every major college football team won except North Texas and Rice.

The two biggest wins of the weekend were Texas upsetting then 10th ranked Notre Dame in a thrilling double-overtime epic and Houston throttling the Oklahoma Sooners. But that’s just two of the 10 major Texas colleges to win.

TCU beat South Dakota State 59-41; Baylor beat Northwestern State 55-7; Texas Tech demolished Stephen F. Austin 69-17; Texas A&M upset UCLA 31-24 in overtime.

Let’s pause and take a breath.

And…SMU knocked off North Texas 34-21; Texas State outlasted Ohio University 56-54; Texas San Antonio beat Alabama State 26-13; and finally, UTEP knocked out the New Mexico State Aggies 38-22 last Saturday.

AP voters rewarded five Texas schools with rankings in the Top 25 led by Houston ranked sixth and Texas checking in at number 11.
