AUSTIN -- State Representative Mark Strama is leaving politics behind to work for Google.

The Austin-area lawmaker has announced on his blog that he will head the Google Fiber operations for the city starting July 15. In his blog he writes that he is "letting my geek flag fly."

Rep. Strama, 45, has represented the northern parts of Austin for eight years. He has more than a year left on his legislative term, so a special election will most likely be called in November to fill his seat.
