AUSTIN -- The City of Austin website has been named the 2013 Best of the Web award winner as the best site in America.
City Manager Marc Ott shared the news in a memo to city staff on Thursday.
The award from the Center for Digital Government named Austin as the top city web portal in the nation. Austin ranked five last year, marking the first time the city made the list.
The cities of Riverside, CA; Raleigh, NC; Tampa, FL and Denver, CO all made the top five list.
“For me, being best-managed is not just about leading in the moment- it's about a process of continuous evaluation and improvement. Our rise from #5 to #1 on this list is a credit to the staff members who have continued to improve our presence on the Web, and I'm confident that we'll only get better as we look to build upon our open government initiatives,” Ott said in the memo.
The team that headed the transformation over the past three years, AustinGo, was thanked by Ott. The team in turn credited the community for the honor on their website, saying, “It’s amazing news - the recognition is very gratifying – but as hard as we’ve worked, the real honor should go to the Austin community.”
