HOUSTON, Texas -- A new kind of pop-up advertisement is coming to your smartphone, and it’ll literally have you talking back to your device.
Nuance, the company behind the popular Dragon voice software, has developed a product called Voice Ads. Some people thought it was an April Fools' joke, but no, it’s real.
The company says its upcoming Voice Ads will allow advertisers to interact with consumers. You, the user, can even ask the ad questions about the product – whether it’s a car or an upcoming event -- kind of like you’re talking to Siri on the iPhone.
The company says for now “yes” or “no” questions are best, but the interactions will get more advanced in the future. Nuance says you’ll probably start seeing, or hearing, these ads on your smartphone in the next two or three months.
Likely they’ll appear in free apps, since those are most often the apps with advertisements. If it annoys you, don’t worry, Nuance says there will always be an option to just touch the screen and close the app. No, you don’t have to talk to it.
