Facebook is working to incorporate the hashtag into its site, according to a Wall Street Journal article.
A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by the pound symbol, and is used as a marker on Twitter so that users can follow or search for posts on a single topic.
Hashtags would allow Facebook to collate conversations in their feed in a way similar to Twitter. This might encourage users to stay logged in and, ultimately, increase ad revenue.
The move comes in Facebook and Twitter's continuing fight for mobile users and revenue.
