AUSTIN -- 6th Street will fill up with crowds starting Tuesday when the music starts at South by Southwest.

Some 2,000 shows are scheduled. The performers come from all across the world -- 50 different nations. There are dozens of extra stages spread out across downtown Austin to make room for all the shows. To see most of those performances, you'll need one of those coveted SXSW badges or wristbands, but there are free concerts scheduled as well.

On Tuesday, Austin police are also stepping up their patrol. There will be some 400 officers out on Austin streets at any given time to help crowd control.

Barricades will be going up on Austin streets through Sunday. There will be partial and full street closures. The majority of closures will be centered on the 6th Street Entertainment District between March 14 through March 18.
