Ex-Halliburton employee: I was raped on the job
10:00 AM CST on Tuesday, December 11, 2007
From within Bagdad’s thick sounds of war came a cry for help.
Jamie Jones, 22, an ex-empolyee of Halliburton’s then-subsidiary KBR, claims she was drugged and brutally raped by several Halliburton/KBR firefighters. She says she was then isolated and told to get over it or return home without the guarantee of a job.
All this allegedly happened in July of 2005 at Camp Hope in Iraq.
Jones has now filed a federal lawsuit against the company.
“Our main concern was to immediately get her to safety after she had been assaulted,” Congressman Ted Poe said.
Court documents state Jones was held captive in a trailer but managed to convince a guard to let her borrow his cell phone.

She called her father, and her father called Poe.
“I think the perpetrators, the individuals who committed this very serious crime against this young lady, should be held accountable. Should be brought to justice,” Poe said.
But Poe also says that right now, the odds for justice are slim.
“My understanding is, that because of a contract with her company, she has to go to arbitration first. And as we know, arbitration is done behind closed doors,” he said.
A KBR document obtained by 11 News opens up some of those doors, but also raises some questions.
In it, KBR tells its side of the story. They deny Jones’ claim and refer to it as “sexual harassment” and not a “brutal rape.” KBR also says the company took prompt action in response to Jones’ outcry and was quick to offer her all manner of support. They say Jones was administered a sexual assault examination after the incident.
“What we hear is the rape kit is nowhere to be found, so the physical evidence has disappeared,” Poe said.
But since the incident, Jones has taken action. She’s started a new foundation to help Americans abused while working abroad.
