Verbal battle over early dismissal

Concerns reportedly over mold at a northeast Houston school have prompted parents to take their children out.

One by one, parents began showing up at Tidwell Elementary School Wednesday morning.

Willie Hunter, who was at the school and is also running for the school board, said that people inside the school are getting sick.

He said he has talked to Northforest ISD about the problem and that it is putting teachers and students at risk.

After some parents took their children out of school, buses began showing up to take other students home.

A school official told 11 news that facility problems at the school prompted them to take the action.

Some parents who heard about the incident are upset saying the school’s superintendent should have told them about possible mold at the school.

“The superintendent is wrong. He’s wrong. We shouldn’t tolerate this,” said the parent.

Other parents, like Dwight Randall, say there’s no evidence about problems at the school. “These kids need to be at school. These parents need to be at work!”

Randall said Hunter is claiming there's mold at the school because he's running for the board.

There is an emergency board meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. concerning the issue.

Meanwhile, an unidentified teacher told 11 News that there will not be any school Thursday and that students will be sent to another facility.

These concerns come a week after the Teacher’s union said that the Center for Disease Control found mold at Key Middle School.

Until Key is deemed safe of any health hazards, the students will attend Fleming Middle School.
