New developments could help relieve allergy symptoms

Ragweed season is right around the corner here in Central Texas, and for many, that means burning eyes and runny noses.
But some new developments in allergy treatments could help you breathe easier.
A new over-the-counter product called "Allergen Block" is a clear gel that you apply to your outer nose and upper lip. It's designed to trap pollen before you can breathe it.
"It has an electro-static charge, which is opposite of the electrostatic charge of the pollen in the air. So when the pollen comes into contact with the gel, it's trapped by this gel and prevented from going into the nose and causing the typical allergy symptoms," said Paul Ratner, M.D., allergy researcher.
"Allergen Block" hit the market in August.
Dr. Ratner is also testing a canister that patients use to blow carbon dioxide into their nasal passages. He says it may block some of the body's response to allergens and could be on the market in a few years.
