Exhumation request granted for remains of Vietnam soldier

03:24 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 17, 2004

Associated Press

SHERMAN -- The Air Force says the body of a Texas airman who died in Vietnam will be exhumed in a family dispute over his last resting place.

The second wife of Chief Master Sergeant Luther Rose of Howe didn't know about the August sixth burial in Sherman.

She's requested that his remains be moved closer to her home -- in Haughton, Louisiana.

Beverly Rose says she hadn't been informed of the burial and only found out after reading an article in a Louisiana newspaper.

The Roses were married when his plane went down in 1966.

The remains of Rose and other crew members were recovered in 1995 by a joint U-S/Lao excavation team.

Air Force spokesman Gary Lott today said no date and time have been set for the disinterment or subsequent burial in Louisiana.
