Possible tornado causes damage in Montgomery County

08:05 AM CDT on Monday, August 4, 2008

By Kevin Peters / 11 News

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- A powerful storm system moved through Montgomery County Sunday night bringing damaging winds and a possible tornado.

A 90-year-old man was hurt when high winds knocked down a tree in the Wildwood Subdivision in the small town of Cut N Shoot.

Witnesses said the fallen tree trapped the man in his bed, breaking both of his legs.

Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital.

A neighbor, Francisco Elias, also had some damage at his home.

“A little tornado… it was scary," Elias said.

Just a mile down the road, Tommy Thompson said four or five trees toppled onto his home.

“We were in the house for 10 minutes and here it came," Thompson said. “We just saw the winds swirling around. All the sudden -- kaboom -- the trees hit the house.”

Thompson said he doesn’t know if his home is salvageable.

“Inside, I got about a two foot hole and the garage is pretty well collapsed,” Thompson said.

About 900 homes lost power during the storm.
