DPS trooper fatally shoots suspect near Von Ormy

VON ORMY, Texas -- A state trooper shot and killed a driver near Von Ormy just after 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office said Allen Pacheco, 32, died in the shooting. The Texas Department of Public Safety told KVUE's news partner KENS 5 a shotgun was found in the rear seat of his vehicle.

The trooper reportedly pulled Pacheco over on Highway 16 near Kings Hill. Pacheco allegedly told the trooper he was a convicted felon and had a weapon in the vehicle.

At that point the trooper attempted to detain him, but Pacheco attempted to get back into his vehicle. The trooper deployed a taser on Pacheco, who was reportedly unfazed by the action. That's when the trooper fired shots and killed him, said DPS.

The trooper, who has been with DPS for about two years, was not injured in the incident. They are on paid administrative leave during the investigation into the shooting.
