Border Patrol agents arrest 12 sex offenders in 12 days

EDINBURG, TEXAS - U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents throughout the Rio Grande Valley Sector have arrested 12 sex offenders in a 12-day span.

CBP said the offenders were arrested by agents stationed in McAllen, Weslaco, Rio Grande City, Fort Brown (Brownsville) and Falfurrias. A Salvadorian national arrested near Hidalgo had been charged with sexual assault of a child in Houston in 2009. Another Salvadorian national arrested at the same time had previously been arrested by police in Maryland and charged with rape.

McAllen agents arrested two men in separate incidents in the lower valley. One man had been arrested, charged and convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Edinburg. The other man had been arrested and charged with kidnapping and sexual battery in North Carolina. The previous arrests on the 12 ranged from aggravated sexual assault, sexual battery to sexual assault of a child under 14 years old.

CBP said all subjects were “processed accordingly and referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office.” The border patrol added people can report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
