PEARLAND, Texas – Three new charges have been filed in one of the worst cases of child sex abuse that area prosecutors have ever seen.
Tad Costin, 42, now faces four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. But investigators believe there are at least 15 victims, some as young as 4.
Police say they have more than 100 photos and videos of Costin sexually assaulting the victims.
"We may have victims going back as far as 1999," Lt. Onesimo Lopez said. "The videos that we recovered from the house were shot as far back as 1999."
"It’s disgusting, it’s horrifying. What kind of a person does that?" asked Heather Peterson, a neighbor.
Tuesday, Pearland police were back at the house where Costin lives with his fiancé and her 5-year-old son.
"I think she needs to be looked at," said Peterson. "How can you live under the same roof as somebody who has been like that since 1990s? Disgusting."
Police say they’ve already found six hard drives and 80 DVDs with sexual images of little girls in the Pearland house.
"Totally shocked. I’m creeped out knowing that he lives so close to me," said Nick Ross, who lives next door.
It was the fiancé’s parents who tipped authorities after finding a box of SD cards at their home in Liberty County. They inserted one into their laptop and were shocked by what they saw.
Detectives believe all of the videos were recorded at Costin’s former address near Clear Lake. Sources said investigators are working on obtaining a search warrant to gain access to that residence.
Authorities brought the case to the attention of the media Monday in hopes of identifying the victims seen in the videos and photos. Since then, six more possible victims have come forward.
According to investigators, there is evidence that Costin did not act alone. That evidence includes a hand seen in some of the videos and shaky camera movement, which indicates someone was on the other side of the lens.
Sources told KHOU that Costin’s girlfriend is now being investigated. KHOU is not naming her because she has not been charged.
Nino Batista said he worked with Costin and his girlfriend, an aspiring model.
"I know them only on set, for projects when she did stuff for modeling," Batista said. "Very, very superficial and had no weird vibes."
Costin is currently behind bars at the Harris County Jail and is being held without bond. Investigators said he has not been cooperating.
His next court date is set for January 2014.
