HOUSTON – A 12-year-old autistic boy was killed Saturday night after he slipped away from his parents and ended up getting struck by a drunk driver on a southwest Houston freeway overpass, according to Houston police.
The boy’s parents reported him missing around 5:30 p.m. after they realized he was not in the home. About two and a half hours later, the child was walking in the northbound lanes of S. Post Oak at Main when he was hit by a black pickup truck. The boy died at the scene.
Police said the driver was found to be intoxicated and arrested for DWI. Although the driver was charged with DWI, he may not be at fault in the death because the boy was walking in a moving lane of traffic.
The case has been referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
