SAN ANTONIO -- Four Brandeis High School students were rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after a drag racing accident on their lunch break.

San Antonio police said four students inside a Mitsubishi Lancer were racing against another car full of students on the eastbound Loop 1604 access road not far from the school.

The boy driving attempted to pass a dually pickup truck on the left side, police said, but did not realize the truck was turning left onto Hausman Road.

The car slammed into the truck before being pushed into a utility pole near the overpass.

Police said three girls were passengers inside the Mitsubishi. All four occupants were taken to University Hospital; police said two of them were in critical condition.

One of the students was flown to the hospital by a medical helicopter.

The driver of the truck was taken to Methodist Hospital. Police said he and a passenger were on their way back to work. The passenger was uninjured.

Police said the blue sedan they were racing did not stop after the crash.
