KATY, Texas – A student suspect was taken into custody Monday afternoon after a potentially explosive device was found at Seven Lakes High School, according to Katy ISD officials.

The school was evacuated around 10 a.m. after the Katy ISD police department learned of a perceived threat on campus. The students were immediately led to the football and baseball field for their safety while The FBI, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the HPD bomb squad joined in the investigation.

The device was located around 11 a.m.

The students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.

Students may be picked up by a parent or they may walk home. Students who do not have transportation will be provided Katy ISD bus transportation. Students who drove to school and currently have the keys in their possession may leave after their car has been cleared to go. Students with car keys in the building, or bikes near the building, are not allowed to retrieve them at this time.

Parents are being asked to pick up their students at Seven Lakes Junior High. All official after-school activities have been canceled.
