CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—A church in south Texas persuaded tens of thousands of people to show up for Easter service.
How? Not with threats over the “Wrath of God,” but rather the lure of “worldly goods.”
Bay Area Church in Corpus Christi gave out a million dollars worth of prizes.
Those who showed up put their names in a lottery.
Some of the lucky winners received cars and flat screen televisions, but nobody left empty handed. Those who did not win were given a gift bag valued at $300.
The prizes were donated by church members who said the gimmick worked. They really wanted to bring more people closer to God.
An estimated 40,000 people attended Sunday’s services.
