SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A San Antonio child died early Thursday evening at the hands of a drunk driver, San Antonio police said.
The accident happened at around 5:45 p.m. in the 9300 block of Autumn Sunrise on the city's northwest side.
Investigators said a seven-year-old child was playing on his bike along the sidewalk when he was struck down by a motorist driving a small white truck.
The driver said he dropped his cell phone and his truck went off the road causing the fatal accident.
AirLife transported the child from the scene near Braun and Old Tezel. The child was later pronounced dead.
Although it has not been determined how fast the 17-year-old driver was going, residents said the speed limit is 30 miles per hour. They said they have made several requests to have speed bumps installed.
Police have charged the driver with intoxication manslaughter.
