AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Gov. Rick Perry says a federal judge's declaring parts of Texas' tough new restrictions on abortion unconstitutional won't stop the state from protecting fetal life.

District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled Monday that abortion rules approved this summer by the Legislature place an unconstitutional burden on women terminating pregnancies.

In a statement, Perry said the ruling will "not stop our ongoing efforts to protect life" and to keep women from being exposed to "abortion-mill horror stories."

Perry said Texas will keep fighting for "laws that reflect the will and values of Texans."

Advocacy groups sued to partially block the law.

They argued that a provision requiring doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital less than 30 miles away would have shuttered about a third of the state's 38 abortion clinics.
