SAN ANTONIO -- Emergency personnel are responding to the report of an officer shot in the 1600 block of North St. Mary's Street.  The area of investigation is centered around a Super 8 motel. 

According to SAPD, the officer, an 8-year-veteran was struck in the head after a suspect fired through a door.  The officer was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center and is expected to survive.

An employee with the motel told KENS 5 the shooter was reportedly in a room and  police were trying to reach that individual.

The suspect, is believed to be in his 30's according to police.

A couple evacuated from the motel told KENS 5 they heard a disturbance just before the shooting.

The call came in at around 7:53  a.m.  as a family disturbance incident. The scene is near I-35.  An active search continues in the area.

Providence High School has been placed on lockdown, officials said.
