Texas Bloomberg Report: Michael Dell to take Dell private

Who will own Round Rock-based Dell? Founder Michael Dell and an investment firm are trying to take the company private with a $24.4 billion buyout plan so the company can catch up with a new wave of competitors in mobile computing.

But now Dell has received proposals from Blackstone Group and investor Carl Icahn. So the saga continues as Dell looks at these new proposals.

 

Oil production in Texas's Eagle Ford Shale Formation climbed 50 percent.

In January versus a year earlier, boosted by drilling from companies including Conocophillips and Chesapeake Energy according to the Texas Railroad Commission which oversees oil and gas drilling in the state. In December, Texas produced over 2.2 million barrels a day which was the highest monthly level since june 1986.

Beer is big business in Texas.

The beer industry contributes 21 billion dollars to the Texas economy each year. That's according to the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the the Beer Institute. The beer industry is linked to over 160-thousand jobs.

Texas ranks number nine in the country with the highest concentration of senior citizens living in poverty. According to Bloomberg rankings...For every 100 Texans living in poverty...60 are age 65 or over.
