SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio teenager has been charged in connection with the murder of 13-year-old Gabriel Martinez last September, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police said the 14-year-old was already incarcerated at the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center on an unrelated charge of robbery.
The boy is suspected of killing Martinez in a drive-by shooting in the 300 block of E. Palfrey St., near Golidad Road and Pecan Valley Drive.
According to investigators, Martinez suffered multiple gunshot wounds while standing in front of his southeast home. Police said he ran to his family in the back yard, where he collapsed and died.
A witness told police three African-American men in a black SUV carried out the shooting. One of the suspects shouted a racial taunt before opening fire on Martinez, according to the police report.
Martinez was a seventh grade student at Rogers Middle School.
The teenage suspect's identity has not been released.
