WEST, Texas -- Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday night for a town hall meeting in the town of West.
Many of them are still waiting to see what's left of their homes.
City officials told the crowd some of the neighborhoods that have reopened will still be without water for another two weeks.
They said getting neighbors back into heavily-damaged parts of town that are still closed was the first priority.
"The state has resources, people that will go with you to help you get your stuff out. So yes, you will be able to get your sentimental items, whatever you need, you will be able to get," Vanek said.
Vanek says a fireman, medic and mental health professional will accompany each resident in those heavily-damaged parts of town.
Vanek did not give a date for when that would happen. However, he did say engineers would survey the water pipes and other infrastructure in the spots that were hardest hit starting Wednesday.
