HOUSTON – Police say a high school student shot himself after being taken into custody for having a gun at North Shore High School Wednesday morning.

Authorities were called to the school around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

A Harris County Precinct 3 deputy arrested the male student at the school. Police handcuffed and searched the student before putting him in the back of a squad car. The student then shot himself in the back of the head, apparently with another gun.

No one else was injured.

School district officials say the student is conscious and being treated at Ben Taub Hospital. His family is with him.
