EL PASO, Texas -- Not much rain here in Austin, but flood advisories remain in effect for far West Texas.
The heavy rains hit the southwest hard, filling arroyos and flooding homes. In rural El Paso County one neighborhood ran out of sandbags and residents had to make their own.
The steady downpour stranded motorists traveling on 1-10
"The semis they pushed me with the waves all the way over there and that's where I ended up," El Paso resident Ernest Ceniceros said.
A portion of IH-10 flooded several times.
"I need a canoe," El Paso resident Shirley York said.
One El Paso man did use a canoe to cross a flooded street.
Across the border in Juarez, Mexico a dike broke and police rescued families who needed to get to higher ground.
The storms clouds that dumped so much rain on this area are expected to move through here giving the saturated ground time to dry, and residents a chance to clean up the mess left behind.
