LEWISVILLE, Texas — Officials say an incident inside Vista Ridge Mall late Monday afternoon that began as a domestic dispute has ended in a suicide.

A police spokesman told KVUE's sister station in Dallas WFAA that officers were summoned after a 25-year-old man confronted an employee of a mall kiosk on the lower level of the shopping center.

Security officers were first to arrive, and as they began escorting the unruly man outside, he produced a handgun and shot himself in front of the Kay Jewelers store.

Lewisville police spokesman Capt. Kevin Deaver said the man was taken to Medical Center of Lewisville, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No one else was injured in the gunfire, and the identity of the gunman was not released.

Crime scene tape surrounded the shooting location as police gathered more information about what led to the shooting. Several shoppers witnessed the fatal shooting.

The shopping center remained open on Monday evening.
