Flames began shooting out the windows of the building at Elm and Griffin streets at noon on May 8, 2013. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 12:20 p.m., battling it from the inside.

A three-alarm fire has been reported on the fifth floor of a nine story building on Griffin and Elm Streets. Falling glass caused police to close the intersections of Field St. and Elm St.; Griffin St. and Elm Street; San Jacinto St. and Field St. DART rail service downtown has been stopped.
