DALLAS — A Woodrow Wilson High School student was shot and wounded Tuesday afternoon at a park a few blocks from campus.

The school's principal, Kyle Richardson, issued a letter to parents which said the student sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident at the southeast corner of Randall Park.

"We are taking all necessary safety precautions to ensure a normal safe school day tomorrow," Richardson said in the statement obtained by WFAA. "We have actively involved Dallas ISD police, Dallas police, counseling services, School Leadership, and Safety & Security."

The principal's letter said the shooting followed a fight that was broken up by school staffers.

"We believe this was an isolated incident involving a small number of students, and are not expecting any additional problems," the principal's statement said.

The shooting victim was reported to be in stable condition. His name was not available.
