SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department and crews from the San Antonio Fire Department rushed to the scene of an accident at a store located at Babcock and Huebner Road late Thursday afternoon.
That's where a car crashed into the building around 4:45 p.m.
Police say a 64-year-old woman was trying to back up her vehicle, but instead, she accidentally hit the gas, plowing right through the plate glass windows of a liquor store.
Officers said she blamed her arthritis for the accident.
“She said she put her foot on the break and it slipped off,” an officer said.
Fortunately, the only person in the store at the time was the manager, Johnny Gonzales, who was able to move out of the way in time to avoid injury.
“We were lucky, we were lucky,” said Gonzales. “Maybe two or three minutes before I had two or three people in the store, if anybody had been walking in or coming out at the time she (driver) would’ve ran right over them.”
Garcia said the collision sounded like a bomb went off.
The driver will not be facing any charges, police said.
