HOUSTON – Police said a little boy was found walking alone near train tracks in southwest Houston early Thursday morning.
According to Houston police, someone spotted the boy before 4 a.m. called 911 and took him to the HPD station on Westplace Drive.
Police said it's possible the boy’s parents work separate shifts, and somehow he simply walked out without them knowing it.
About two hours after he was found, the parents called police and indicated they were on the way to the station to pick up the boy, police said. It was not immediately clear how the child got away from his home, however.
Police said the child appeared to be in good condition -- and in good spirits.
“He seems clean, well taken care of,” said HPD Officer Robert Clasen. “We gave him some water and some cookies, and we're just waiting to see where, if we get a missing child call."
Police said had they not heard from the parents by 7 a.m., the boy would have been cared for by C.P.S.
An HPD officer followed the parents as they took the boy home around 6 a.m.
